After a long weekend on the road the Bobcats came into Quad City on Halloween afternoon with no thoughts of tricks or treats, but would see both before the end of the game. The hunger to find their first win still raging and knowing this was the last game before the home opener hung in the heads of every player.
The Bobcats fell behind in the first period as a trend that began a week ago continued on. The Storm surged and Shane Bennett was able to open the scoring on the power play at 5:21 of the first period. Despite going down Vermilion County battled and continued to fight hard with goaltender Thomas Proudlock 21 of 22 shots in the first period.
The second period saw another Bobcat tally his first goal of the season and of his professional career as Mike Tish was able to bat home a rebound to tie the game at 1 at 9:31 of the second period. As the period ticked down the final seconds saw a scramble at the Vermilion County net and as Proudlock sprawled the buzzer sounded but the puck trickled in off Shane Bennett's stick. No lights came on, but the official gestured goal and put .1 second back on the clock. As the Bobcats exited the ice the wind had clearly been knocked out of their sales.
The Storm came out flying in the third and Josh Koepplinger scored on the power play once again to give the Storm a 3-1 lead. With the game coming to an end the Bobcats pulled Proudlock for the extra attacker and Bennett put home an empty net goal to give the Storm the 4-1 win and two game sweep.
The Bobcats return home Friday, November 5th and Saturday, November 6th for their home opener. Tickets are still available, but are going fast log onto VCbobcats.com or stop on down to the David S Palmer Arena box office to get your tickets now!
