After a long layoff due to the two postponed games last week, the Vermilion County Bobcats finally took the ice for a game as they traveled to Huntsville to take on the Havoc. The Bobcats welcomed back Brendan Murphy and Sullivan Shortreed back into the lineup for the first time in a couple of weeks.
In the first period, VC was not able to capitalize on the only penalty called against Huntsville. The Havoc did score almost thirteen minutes in to take a 1-0 lead into the 1st intermission.
Huntsville took a 2-0 lead around the ten minute mark in the second. Vermilion County was given a great opportunity to tie the game as Huntsville took two penalties to give the Bobcats a 5-3 man opportunity for 52 seconds. They were not able to score, and Huntsville went into the third period with not only a 2-0 lead, but a power play to start the third.
The Bobcats killed off Huntsville's only power play and dominated the play in the third. As it looked like they were going to be shutout, the Bobcats pulled the goalie in the last three minutes. A scrum in front of the Huntsville net allowed Justin Portillo to put home a rebound to break up the shutout and cut the lead to 2-1 with 10 seconds left in the game. VC was not able to get the equalizer in the end, giving the Havoc a 2-1 victory in front of a sold out crowd.
Brett Epp made 29 of 31 saves, as his record falls to 1-10-0. The Bobcats were 0-4 on the power play, their 4th straight game without a power play goal. The team is now 3-17-1-0 for the season.
It is the final game of the 2022 calendar year tonight as the Bobcats travel to Knoxville to take on the Ice Bears. It is a 5 PM central start time, with the pre game starting at 4:45 PM on HockeyTV.com and the online stream of the game on the home page.
