Bobcats Fall 5-2 Amid Flurry of Action

7073964157 • October 31, 2021

The Bobcats came into game two of the three in three still looking for win number one in the franchise's history. After a solid effort a week ago the Cats seemed poised for a strong showing in Quad City, but without the help of Chase Perry they would have to find a new netminder up to the task.

The first period saw Vermilion County come out strong throwing pucks on net and trying to get the jump on the Storm, but after the initial flurry from the Bobcats Quad City responded putting up 24 shots in the first period. At 11:03 the Storm found the scoreboard as Michael Moran was able to beat Corbin Kaczperski to put the Storm up 1-0. Five minutes later on a power play Shane Bennett also found the back of the net to give Quad City the 2-0 advantage.

Even though the Bobcats started period two on the power play the ice continued to lean Quad City's way as Nick Mangone, Marcus Ortiz, and Shane Bennett all were able to beat Kaczperski running him out of the game. With Thomas Proudluck entering the game and facing a couple shots quickly the tide seemed to turn. A poke check through center ice sent Zach White streaking on a breakaway that gave Vermilion County their first goal of the weekend to cut the lead to 5-1.

As in the second the third period started with VC on the power play. This time, however Nick Papendrea took a shot from the point and buried it past Bailey Brkin to cut the lead to 5-2. Though the scoring would end here the action didn't. Throughout the rest of the third period pushing and shoving eventually boiled over into fights. Both sides got into the physicality and eventually a five aside brawl broke out at Center Ice. With just over 6 minutes to go both penalty boxes were full and though the Cats had a 5 on 3 advantage most of their power play units were serving time they were unable to find the back of the net again.

The Cats are back on the prowl tomorrow at 2:10 pm against these same Storm before finally returning to the David S Palmer Arena next Friday and Saturday night at 7:00pm! Tickets are still available, but they are selling fast! Get your tickets at the David S Palmer Arena box office or on VCBobcats.com.
