Round two between the visiting Knoxville Ice Bears and the host Vermilion County Bobcats took place at the David S. Palmer arena in Danville Saturday night. The visitors took their power play chances and capitalized on them, scoring three in the 5-1 victory.
Knoxville took a 1-0 lead at 5:14 of the first when they scored their first of three power play goals. They then doubled their lead with ninety seconds left, heading to the locker room with a 2-0 lead.
The second period saw the Bobcats killing off a five-minute power play. They almost came away without giving up a goal. But, with only seven seconds left, Knoxville got on the board for the third time, their second power play goal of the night. Vermilion County finally made the scoresheet as Tyler Dill scored his first professional goal, putting home an Austin Albrecht rebound with 6:01 left to cut the lead to 3-1. Knoxville scored 1:45 later, and the Ice Bears led 4-1 after two periods.
The visitors picked up their third power play goal of the night at 6:12 of the third period, and that finished up the scoring for the Ice Bears. Sean Kuhn, starting goalie for the Bobcats, made 31 of 36 saves, with his record dropping to 2-6-1. Vermilion County’s record is now 3-15-1
The Bobcats will finish the 2022 calendar year at home on Sunday, December 18th at 4 PM. They will host the Peoria Rivermen, who lead the SPHL in the standings. Santa will be at the game taking pictures with the kids and there will also be a skate with the players immediately after the game.
