Danville had been without a hockey team to cheer for since the FPHL officially cancelled the Dashers 2019/20 season on March 14th, 2020..... until last night. The Bobcats were delayed a week due to an unforseen issue at the David S Palmer Arena, but Coach Watt took the team through a tough week of practice and they went in to Taxslayer Center ready to face the Storm.
Quad City found the scoresheet first 10:44 into the game as a Carter Shinkaruk shot fluttered its way through the zone and behind Chase Perry before he could find it to make it a 1-0 game. The Storm would surge again seconds later when a shot from the slot off the stick of Taylor Prynce would trickle five-hole to the back of the net, doubling the home sides’ advantage 2-0.
Vermilion County answered back with just south of seven minutes remaining till the intermission. The Bobcats were putting a heavy press on in the offensive half of the ice, as Quad City committed a turnover that led to Dakota Ulmer scooping up the rubber and crossing it to Zach White who didn’t miss on the chance on Peter Di Salvo’s right side, cutting the score to just 2-1 Storm.
Taxslayer Center having been silenced by the White goal erupted just :14 later with Michael Moran lighting the lamp for the first time. A battle by Cole Golka and a heads-up look saw his awaiting teammate waiting for the one-timer that he didn’t miss on, putting the Storm on top 3-1 at 1st intermission.
Despite Dakota Ulmer managing to power a wrist shot home 4:01 into the second frame to cut the deficit to one, the Bobcats just couldn’t make up the ground over the final 40 minutes that Quad City threw up on the board in the first period and fell 3-2.
The Bobcats are back in action on Friday at Evansville to battle the Thunderbolts in the first matchup between the two clubs in history, before welcoming them to David S. Palmer for the teams’ home opener on Friday, November 5th. Visit vcbobcats.com today to secure your tickets to see Vermilion County in action on home ice.
